2018 Bond Project Construction Timeline Updated for Student Safety

As the new facilities continue to develop, big decisions are being made to adjust our time frames and relocation plans to best serve our students. These changes were set in place and made possible after a review from the administration team and the school trustees in the October school board meeting.

Construction has been underway at Caldwell High School of the new Career, Tech and Science classrooms and the new gymnasium for three weeks now. Construction crews have determined the CTE/Sci building, originally to be completed January 2021, is now estimated to be complete by November 1, 2020. The completion date of the new gymnasium, initially estimated to be November 1, 2020, is now September 1, 2020.

One big change coming to the campuses will be moving the 7th and 8th grade class to the high school campus for the entire school year of 2020-2021. The plans are to separate the middle school children into half of one of the high school’s wings and the portables.
The new pre-k through 3rd grade campus, located at Alligator and Gray streets, is scheduled to open in the fall of 2021. At the same time, 4th - 6th grade classes will relocate to the former elementary building, while the 7th and 8th graders move to the former intermediate campus.

These particular changes come for many reasons. Most notably is the safety of our students. With the previous construction time frame, pre-k to 6th grade classes were anticipated to be displaced multiple times throughout the year and possibly have the 3rd – 8th grade classes moving right before the STAAR testing. Now, according the new construction timeline all moving will take place during the summer months. An added bonus to the changes includes saving approximately $250,000 as well as saving 8 months on the project.

Exciting and great things are happening everyday in Caldwell. Stay informed and be on the lookout for updates as construction progresses.
