Bus Rules

TRANSPORTATION

(Info for bus riders)

The primary purpose of the Caldwell ISD Transportation Department is transporting eligible students to and from the bus stop servicing their home address. Therefore, students are expected to ride the assigned bus each day to and from school and enter and exit the bus at their assigned bus stop.

Parents who wish for their students to ride the bus to and from a licensed daycare facility or grandparent’s home within the district attendance boundary must complete the transportation request form and submit it for approval to the transportation department.
Students will only be assigned one (1) transportation address.

After School Care program is available for students in PK - 6th grade.

These rules are designed to keep the safety of our children first. By state law, we have to have assigned seats for each bus route and those are impossible to complete in a timely fashion if we allowed parents to change their child’s route daily. Permanent changes are allowed when parents provide the proper information to the transportation department. Ten days are requested to make those changes. We have over 1000 students riding 20 buses per day. To maintain safety, we do not want to overload a bus. Currently, we are in jeopardy of overloading buses because students want to ride home with a friend or parents want to change their route due to their schedules.

Please complete the Transportation Request Form and return it to either CISD Transportation Department, CISD Administration Office, or your child's school.

School-Sponsored Trips

Students who participate in school-sponsored trips are required to use transportation provided by the school to and from the event. As approved by the principal, a coach or sponsor of an extracurricular activity may establish procedures related to making an exception to this requirement when a parent requests that the student be released to the parent or to another adult designated by the parent.

Buses and Other School Vehicles

The district makes school bus transportation available to all students living in the district. This service is provided at no cost to students.

Bus routes and stops will be designated annually, and any subsequent changes will be posted at the school and on the district’s website. For the safety of the operator of the vehicle and all passengers, students must board buses or other vehicles only at authorized stops, and drivers must unload passengers only at authorized stops.

If you need to pick up your bus rider, you must communicate this to the school office no later than 2:00 pm on the day of the change. Changes requested after 2:00 pm will not be permitted due to the safety and security of our students.

A one-time request for a change from bus rider to car rider must be directed to and approved by the director of transportation at least 2 days prior to the change. Parents should not stop the bus at another campus or at a bus drop off point to pick their students up. Once a student is on the bus, he/she must be dropped off at their one assigned drop off location.

Students are expected to assist district staff in ensuring that buses and other district vehicles remain in good condition and that transportation is provided safely. When riding in district vehicles, including buses, students are held to behavioral standards established in this handbook and the Student Code of Conduct. Students must:

  • Follow the driver’s directions at all times.

  • Enter and leave the vehicle in an orderly manner at the designated stop.

  • Keep feet, books, instrument cases, and other objects out of the aisle.

  • Not deface the vehicle or its equipment.

  • Not put head, hands, arms, or legs out of the window, hold any object out of the window, or throw objects within or out of the vehicle.

  • Not possess or use any form of tobacco on any district vehicle.

  • Observe all usual classroom rules.

  • Be seated while the vehicle is moving.

  • Fasten their seat belts, if available.

  • Wait for the driver’s signal upon leaving the vehicle and before crossing in front of the vehicle.

  • Follow any other rules established by the operator of the vehicle.

Misconduct will be punished in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct; the privilege to ride in a district vehicle, including a school bus, may be suspended or revoked.

NOTE: If bus privileges are suspended, arrangements for transportation to and from school are the parent/guardian’s responsibility.  Students MUST continue to attend school. Suspension from bus privileges includes regular route, field trips, athletic trips, or any other school function.
