Biography - Vicki Ochs

Hello Hornet Family!  I’m Vicki Ochs and I consider it an honor to be serving as one of your Caldwell ISD School Board Members. I was raised in Livingston, TX, by my parents Neal and Gloria Murphy. While growing up, I worked as a swimming instructor for many years and assisted with the Children’s Church at First Baptist of Livingston. I come from a big family - my four siblings and I all graduated from Livingston High School, and many of them still live in that part of Texas.

Knowing that I loved to teach and work with children, I chose to attend college at Stephen F. Austin and earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Education.  After three years of teaching & coaching at Brookshire Royal High School, I married my husband, Kim, and moved to Mathis, TX, where I taught K - 3rd grade Physical Education. Kim and I soon moved to Daingerfield, TX; all together, we spent 22 years in Daingerfield! Kim served as the Superintendent for Daingerfield State Park, and I taught Physical Education at South Elementary (3rd-5th grade), before becoming the Principal at that same campus. During this time, I earned my Master of Science in Education from East Texas State University and my Principal Certification from Texas A&M at Texarkana.  As many of you know, our family first moved to Caldwell in 2005. I spent my first year at CHS as a teacher/coach, before becoming the Assistant Principal. Our youngest son, Cory is a proud graduate of Caldwell High School. Finally, we made a permanent move back to Caldwell so that I could serve as the Principal of CHS for eight years.

After 37 years of working in education, I retired in June, 2021. It was my honor to serve the students, staff, parents, and community of Caldwell for 12 years. Kim and I recently celebrated 37 years of being happily married, and we are so blessed by our three grown children, Brad and his wife Tina, Ashley and her husband Jay, and Cory and his wife Stephanie. Of course, the apples of our eyes are our grandchildren, Kara, Luke, Adam, Brody, and Conley!

I became the director of our Mother’s Day Out Program at First Baptist Church in September of 2021. I absolutely love working with the children at MDO, but I also wanted to still see what I could do to serve CISD. I decided to run for School Board and I was fortunate to earn the trust of our community by being elected to serve in this wonderful position.

Education has always been a part of my life and I have a huge passion for helping students! My goal for Caldwell ISD is for every student to have the opportunity to receive an excellent education and to become productive members of our society. While I was Principal, I thoroughly enjoyed watching our students participate in their academics, extra-curricular activities, and to receive their diploma at Graduation. I want to continue to improve CISD and make it the BEST district in the state of Texas. Go Hornets and Sting’em!
